Ceramic Veneers

Ceramic veneers are thin layers of dental porcelain bonded onto the teeth surface.

Ceramic veneers are a common form of cosmetic rehabilitation procedure. They are most commonly used for but not limited to the upper front teeth. Always talk to your Prosthodontist before making a decision to get veneers and also to discuss the number of veneers you might need. Indications of ceramic veneers are:

Ceramic veneers might not be suitable in:

J Patient who are heavy grinders, also known as bruxers. Patient who grinds their teeth a lot put excessive amount of forces unconsciously on their teeth, which can lead to the fracture of veneers.

If there is no natural enamel left on the teeth. Enamel is the outer layer of our teeth. Bonding of veneers is most predictable in presence of good quality of enamel. Lack of enamel can lead to debonding of veneer.

Patients who would benefit from full coverage restorations like crowns, which might be needed due to excessive loss of tooth structure etc.

Patient who have edge to edge bite, due to the limitation of restorative space for the veneer.

Composite Veneers: Direct composite veneers might be an alternative to the ceramic veneers. Composite veneers are directly done in patient’s mouth by the Prosthodontist and are made of composite resin.

Crowns

Orthodontic Treatment: In some circumstances conventional orthodontic treatment with braces might be a good alternative to veneers to correct the alignment of teeth and achieve cosmetic improvement.

Ceramic veneers are usually minimally invasive. The preparation of for veneers is limited to enamel (the outer most layer of tooth). No further treatment is usually required.
