Day 2 of the Academy’s Biennial Scientific Meeting featured another outstanding scientific program, highlighted by the third lecture in Prof Jakovac’s oral rehabilitation series.
The program also included excellent presentations from distinguished invited speakers Dr David Chvartszaid, A/Prof Geoff Young, and Dr Luke Villata, alongside presentations from Academy members Dr Varun Garg and Dr Sergio Salis. The afternoon concluded with the postgraduate Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (DClinDent) research presentations, showcasing the high calibre of emerging prosthodontic research across Australia and New Zealand.
The Academy’s Annual General Meeting was held mid-morning and included robust discussions on Academy business and matters relating to Prosthodontics in Australia and New Zealand.
In accordance with the Academy Constitution, the following appointments were confirmed for the 2026–2028 term:
- President: Dr Bevan Chong
- Immediate Past President: Prof Sunyoung Ma
- Secretary-Treasurer: Dr Anny Huang
The following State Councillors were elected:
- Dr Aaron Wong (Western Australia)
- Dr Amal Ibrahim (South Australia)
- Dr Amylia Bal (New South Wales)
Continuing State Councillors are:
- Dr Carolina Perez (Victoria)
- Dr Mark Gervais (Queensland)
- Dr Andrew Newsome (New Zealand)
Academy council and committee members following 2026 AGM
The Academy extends its sincere appreciation to Dr Constance Law for her dedicated service as Secretary-Treasurer (2024–2026). The Academy also thanks Dr Brendon Joyce (WA), A/Prof Alan Broughton (SA), and Dr Louis Kei (NSW), who completed their terms as State Councillors, for their valuable contributions to the Academy.
The day concluded with the Gala Dinner, proudly sponsored by Moredent, at Bazaar Restaurant, QT Queenstown. Set against the spectacular backdrop of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding Southern Alps, the evening provided an opportunity for members and guests to celebrate another successful day of scientific exchange and collegiality.
During the Gala Dinner, Dr Cindy Zhou, recipient of the 2024 DClinDent Research Prize, presented the 2026 DClinDent Research Presentation Awards. Congratulations to the prize recipients:
- Winner: Dr Esha Zahid (University of Melbourne)
- Runners-up: Dr Kerollous Nazeem (University of Sydney) and Dr David Yu (University of Queensland, in absentia)
